🇫🇷 Gordon Matta-Clark (1943-1978), architecte et artiste conceptuel américain, s’intéresse dès l’été 1972 au phénomène du namewriting qui émerge alors dans les rues de New York.
Jusqu’à l’automne 1973, il réalise plus de 2 000 photographies du graffiti new-yorkais, dont seule une petite partie sera exposée de son vivant. Après la publication en 2024 d’un important ouvrage consacré à ces images, de nombreux clichés rares et inédits ont été redécouverts.
Ce second volume de NYC Graffiti Archive 1972/73 nous plonge à nouveau dans les débuts du namewriting, à travers les photographies de Matta-Clark montrant les métros et les rues de New York à une période clé : celle où les pieces aux contours définis se développe à partir du tag.

🇬🇧 Gordon Matta-Clark (1943–1978), an American architect and conceptual artist, became interested in the emerging phenomenon of namewriting on the streets of New York in the summer of 1972.
Until the fall of 1973, he took more than 2,000 photographs of New York graffiti, only a small portion of which were exhibited during his lifetime. Following the publication in 2024 of a major book dedicated to these photographs, numerous rare and previously unpublished images were rediscovered.
This second volume of NYC Graffiti Archive 1972/73 takes us back once again to the early days of namewriting, through Matta-Clark’s photographs of New York’s subways and streets during a pivotal period in graffiti history: when outlined pieces began to develop from the tag.
We imported this rare book directly from the United States. Only 500 copies were printed, which explains its retail price.
